The Southern Spring Home and Garden Show

I visited the Big Garden Show in Charlotte yesterday. I sat in on several floral design and gardening classes, learned a few things, and purchases some new plants--more succulents and a pair of tiny african violets that I've popped into china tea cups. Had a great time, I will write more later about it all, I've got more photos too--fun! The photo here is of Hope Wright, who is a Floral Seminar Specialist at the Biltmore Estates. (fancy~shmancy!) I took several pages of notes during her presentation, 'Flower Arranging for Gardeners.' She made a gorgeous arrangement, shared a great deal of tips and know-how.

This particular seminar made me feel so lonesome for owning my own home and garden again. I needed to shake it off and think containers again-- which was easy cuz there were plenty of them at the show--and one of my favorite presentations was 'Drought Tolerant Containers' done by Susie Cochran, Retail Manager of Rountree Plantation (my FAVORITE nursery in Charlotte). I watched part of that with a vendor I met at the show; Shawna Turner of Ribald Farms Nursery in Rock Hill SC. Shawna and her hubby Scott run a whole sale nursery that is going retail this spring and will soon be open for business at 341 Anderson Rd, in Rock Hill. They open April 1st 2008-- can't wait! I got some great deals on succulents from Shawna-mainly for my little living purse project, but some to keep too~smile~ I'll post more about those later, and share photos of Susie C's great containers gardens for drought too.

I Had an overall good time at the show, I am thinking I would like to go back Sunday--maybe I can convince hubby to come? I'd love to go to some seminars on orchids and I think he'd enjoy the bonsais on display.
