Aldi and Sam's Club Price List Update

This is my latest updated price list for Sam's Club and Aldi. I do not list every product they sell--only some products that I have purchased sometimes or regularly.
This month, due to the holiday I did a little more shopping at Sams than usual. I do find I'm not buying as many things there-I buy bigger quantities of what I do get however. Aldi is getting more attractive to me--maybe due to size of the store? I can get in and out so fast!

Prices this update are not too much changed. Sam's was lower in milk. Aldi has been changing some of their brands and carries much more than it used to--more ethnic and gourmet and diet conscious choices. I generally have stayed with basics, but this week I tried a some chips and sausage I'd never bought--haven't served them yet--we'll see.

They do stick to their tried and true format, usually offering only one brand of things. I notice they have changed some of the dairy--I hope it is as good as the old brand. On my Aldi trip I noted that 4 of my items went down a little in price and 5 went up. For the most part the prices are the same as usual--which is very interesting as in 'normal' stores they do seem to be rising more obviously.

One thing I definitely noticed at the two stores is the shoppers--this time around I paid more attention to who was around me. At Sam's the crowd is mixed but for the most part more affluent appearing. At Aldi I saw a more noticeable amount of disabled folks, and generally more of the less affluent ethnic folks--although-- Sam's is multi-cultural as well as Aldi--it does seem to attract folks a little higher up the ladder. I overheard a conversation in the parking lot at Aldi about where there might be some jobs.

Aldi is a store for hard times, I've used it for many years--not always in hard times, but sometimes. Aldi began that way back in Germany after the war by selling only basics at a cheap price for post war customers who were struggling to feed their families. It is a business model that will do well in our current times. It is also family owned and is not publicly traded--I'd buy stock if it was.

Going to Aldi also reminds me that in our area unemployment is still very very high. It touches some part of my heart that wants to find a way to reach out when I see people that show some of those signs of struggle on their faces or in the way they walk. It gave me pause.
